The Challenge

Colombia is the second most biodiverse country on Earth, yet it ranks only 50th in the world for human tourism. Despite its natural wealth, global perceptions and a history of conflict have long overshadowed the country’s potential as a travel destination. The brief was clear: develop a strategy to increase international tourism by showcasing Colombia’s hidden natural wonders, especially in regions previously overlooked, and spark a global conversation around its renewed identity.

The Solution

Every year, over 530 migratory species—including birds, whales, and turtles—instinctively choose Colombia. Unlike humans, who travel based on trends or outdated assumptions, animals follow nature’s cues. This sparked a question: What do animals know that we don’t? So we flipped the tourism model. Using satellite tracking, marine sensors, and platforms like Movebank and eBird, we turned real-time animal migration data into media triggers. When a species arrived in Colombia, its GPS data activated personalized ads on OTAs like Expedia and Despegar, inviting travelers to follow the same path, with dynamically generated travel offers based on season and availability. We launched the campaign with a global showcase at The Sphere in Las Vegas, positioning species as influencers and their journeys as a new kind of travel guide. The result: instinct-powered travel, driven by innovation and guided by nature.
